What are BCAAs?
Branched Chain Amino-Acids, or BCAAs, are amino acids that are essential for human life, but are not produced by the body itself. This means that they have to come from external sources, such as foods. The three BCAAs are valine, leucine, and isoleucine, and are vital for the production of muscle tissue.
Supplementing with BCAAs
BCAAs are most commonly consumed through dietary sources, in particular from protein sources. For individuals who do not consume much protien, BCAAs may be insufficient from dietary sources and require supplementation. In healthy adults, BCAAs have been used as a means for increasing protein synthesis and have long been used as a general wellness supplement for athletes and fitness enthusiasts.*
